45 rpm record plug. when grammaphone records were in high use, 45s were a popular format for so-called "singles". the rca company made a record player that could hold many 45s, dropping them onto the platter and playing them one at a time. this required a large hole in the middle of the record. but these 45s could not be played on traditional record players with their smaller spindles, so these things—record plugs—were manufactured and sold to make things compatible. |
