star trek communicator. things are always imagined before they're produced—sometimes long before. science fiction is often an expression of hope, fear, or some other deep-seated emotion. and at the same time, sci-fi may be one of the most intelligent genres in that it looks into possible futures, sometimes with startling insight. it could be argued whether the practice somehow foresees or actually invents and influences the future. case in point: the star trek communicator—created originally in the 1960s and greatly resembling the 21st century multi-purpose personal digital assistant. |
